Tim Nelson Named Head Golf Coach

Longtime Omaha-area teaching professional Tim Nelson has been named the head women's golf coach at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Athletic Director Bob Danenhauer announced today. Nelson replaces Melissa Brooks, who resigned in February after coaching the team for two and a half seasons.
"We think that Tim will do an outstanding job," Danenhauer said. "He is very respected as a golf professional in our area."
Nelson, a UNO graduate, was the head coach at the College of St. Mary last season. He has been a teaching professional as a member of the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) since 1972. He has been the director of instruction at Eagle Hills Golf Course in Papillion since April, 2000.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity and I'm looking forward to working with the UNO staff as well as the team," Nelson said.
The Mavericks last fall won the North Central Conference championship in just their third season of play. UNO finished third in the NCAA II North Regional Tournament in May. All 10 Mavericks will return to the squad next season.
