Stock's 72 Leads Mavs to UNK Tourney Title

GOTHENBURG, NEB. -- Sophomore Amanda Stock fired an even-par 72 Monday to lead the Mavericks to the team title in the UNK Invitational over Northeastern (OK) State. Stock won medalist honors with her 152 total on the 5,872-yard Wild Horse Golf Club. UNO now owns three team titles and two runner-up finishes in the five fall tournaments it has entered.
Stock's career-best round, which was also a school-record, helped her pass teammate Sandy Strate, the first-round leader, who finished second with a 77-81--158. The other Mavericks included Tanis Hastmann, who rebounded from an opening-round 89 to fire a two-over 74 for a fourth-place total of 163, Mandy Houtz, tied for 11th at 81-90--171, and Stephanie Oster, tied for 22nd with a 93-85--178. Katie Etter competed as an individual and shot 88-87--175.
UNO followed its first-round score of 327 with a 312 Monday for a 639 total, easily topping runner-up Northeastern State's 679. Northern Colorado was third at 693, West Texas State fourth at 697 and host Nebraska-Kearney was fifth in the eight-team tournament at 709.
The Mavericks are next in action at the Southwest Minnesota State Invitational in Marshall, Minn., on Sept. 20-21.
