Trio of Opponents Await Mavs this Weekend

The Mavs will begin the final two weeks of the regular season this weekend by traveling to South Dakota for a 5 p.m. dual Friday. Saturday the Mavs will meet Division I opponents Northern Colorado and Northern Iowa at 1 p.m. at HPER Pool in a triangular meet. UNO fell to 7-3 after losing 198-93 to Nebraska last weekend in Lincoln. The Mavs will have one more dual, Feb. 6 at Iowa State, before competing in the North Central Conference championships at North Dakota Feb. 18.
About the competition
South Dakota is 8-4 in duals this season. Diver Lindsey Schafer was named the North Central Conference women's diver of the week after qualifying for nationals last week. Northern Iowa defeated Luther College 165-69 last Saturday to improve to 3-7 overall and Northern Colorado is 4-3. The Bears defeated UNO 161-139 in the Mavs' opening dual of the season.
Two Mavs are qualified for nationals
Swimmer Ashley Renshaw qualified for nationals with a time of 1:05.95 in the 100 yard breaststroke. She can also compete in the 200 yard breaststroke after achieving a provisional time of 2:24.65. Diver Jamie Grogan can compete in the pre-qualifying meet in both the 1 and 3 meter dives. Her score of 393.97 is the third best reported score in the 1 meter competition.
Last Time Out for the Mavs
Nebraska won 13 of 16 events last Saturday as the Mavs fell 198-93 to the Huskers in a dual Saturday in Lincoln. Sarah Clark took first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of :24.56, just .27 seconds off the national qualifying mark. Nebraska-Omaha then finished out the event with two first-place finishes. Ashley Renshaw won the 400 yard medley and the team of Clark, Martina Zamecnik, Bridgette Schram and Lisa Wemhoff placed first in the 200 yard free relay.
