UNO Splits in Triangular with D I Opponents

The Mavs fell to Northern Colorado by just four points but topped Northern Iowa for the second straight day to split a triangular Saturday afternoon at HPER Pool. UNO won seven of 16 events for an 83-57 victory over the Panthers but UNC won the final two events to secure just a 72-68 win over the Mavs after defeating them by 21 points in October.
To open up the day, UNO's 200 yard medley team of Sarah Clark, Vanessa Fleguel, Ashley Renshaw and Martina Zamecnik took first with a time of 1:52.69.
Clark also took first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of :24.30 and Zamecnik clocked in at 1:00.15 to win the 100 yard butterfly. Veronica Barna won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.59, Beth Hempelman's time of 2:13.88 won the 200 yard butterfly and Jaime Grogan won both the 1 and 3 meter diving competition.
The Mavs will wrap up the regular season with their sixth Division I opponent, Iowa State, next Friday at 6 p.m.

VERMILLION, S.D.- The Maverick 400 meter free relay team broke a DakotaDome Pool record as UNO topped Northern Iowa 135-107 and South Dakota 153-81 in a triangular between the three schools Friday night. The Mavs won seven of 13 events to improve to 9-3.
Veronica Barna, Lisa Wemhoff, Sarah Clark and Stacy Crook set the record with a time of 4:04.30, beating the old mark also set by the Mavs in 2002.
The Mavs opened the event with Wemhoff, Vanessa Fleguel, Ashley Renshaw, and Martina Zamecnik teaming to win the 200 meter medley relay with a time of 2:05.27. Clark then won the 50 meter freestyle with a: 27.58 time. The Mavs went on to win four straight events. Jaime Grogan took first in the 1 meter dive with a 264.10 score, Zamecnik won the 100 meter butterfly at 1:06.19, Crook timed in at 1:01.24 to win the 100 meter freestyle and Fleguel took first in the 100 meter backstroke with a 1:11.77 time.
The Mavs will return home Saturday for another triangular, this time meeting UNI and Northern Colorado at 1 p.m. at HPER Pool.
