Kyvelidou Captures KSU Pentathlon Title

MANHATTAN, KAN.-- Nebraska-Omaha's Anastasia Kyvelidou won the Carol Robinson Pentathlon, hosted by Kansas State University Friday, breaking the school record in the process. Kyvelidou finished with 4,013 points.
Nebraska-Lincoln's Ashley Selig (3,770) and Sara Jane Baker (3,707) placed, second and third, respectively.
Kyvelidou also set the UNO indoor record in the long jump with a mark of 19-11 3/4. That mark, along with her 60-meter hurdle time of 8.68 were automatic qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II national indoor meet.
The Mavericks' Debbie Akerly took fourth place with 3,531 points and also had a provisional qualifying time of 8.88 in the 60-meter hurdles.
The previous long jump record was 19-7, set by Linda Vondras in 1993 and the pentathlon record was 3,593 by Kalyn Byers in 2003.
