Mavs in First after Day One

The University of Nebraska-Omaha swimming and diving team is in first place after the first day of competition in the Mutual of Omaha Invitational. UNO holds a commanding lead with 617 points, as second place University of North Dakota follows with 460.
The Mavs were paced by three first place finishes out of nine events. Three individual swimmers and one relay team recorded national qualifying times.
In the first event final of the day the Maverick 200-yard freestyle relay team of Molly Connolly, Martina Zamecnik, Jessica Hessel, and Lisa Wemhoff finished with a time of 1:37.05 to qualify automatically for nationals. Individually, Courtney Peterson qualified in the 400-yard individual medley (4:33.48). Ashley Renshaw qualified in the 100-yard breastroke with a time of 1:05.77. Senior Sarah Clark finished with a time of 23.82 in the 50-yard freestyle to also qualify for nationals.
The Mutual of Omaha Invitational will resume tomorrow at 9 a.m. The swimming portion will take place at the HPER building on the UNO campus with the diving events being held at Millard West High School.
