Mavericks Host Diet Pepsi/UNO Women's Walk on Apri

The University of Nebraska at Omaha Women's Athletic Department will hold its annual fundraiser, the Diet Pepsi/UNO Women's Walk, Saturday, April 17. Check in begins at 9:00 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 a.m. Over 1,000 women have signed up to take part in this event which raises money for scholarships for UNO's female student-athletes. The event, now in its 19th year, is sponsored by the Pepsi-Cola Company, which donates $25,000 annually to underwrite the cost of the walk. All walkers will begin on the track surrounding Caniglia Field. Walkers may stay on the track or move on to the campus route, where they may either run or walk. In the event of inclement weather, the entire event will be held inside the UNO Sapp Fieldhouse.
Last year, a record $215,000 was raised. Over $2 million has been raised for the UNO women's athletic program over the past 18 years. This year's goal is to raise $200,000 for female student-athlete scholarships, bringing the total money raised in the Women's Walk to over $2.2 million since its inception.
Money is raised through donations which are solicited by the walkers. A continental breakfast is served in the Sapp Fieldhouse afterward. Other incentives for walkers include a chance to win two airline tickets courtesy of Travel & Transport, a blue topaz pendant from Borsheim's, a $300 and a $100 gift certificate from Hy-Vee, a 19" flat panel LCD display from Nebraska Furniture Mart, a full day spa package from Absolute Serenity Day Spa, two free dinners per month from Julio's (5402 No. 90 St.), 52 car washes from Anderson Food Shops, a premier salon package from Concepts Salon, a $250 Cox Communications gift certificate, two Mannheim Steamroller Christmas concert tickets with gift crate, 52 Arby's meal passes, a $100 gift certificate to M. Constantino's salon, a $100 Younkers gift card, two Discover Flight instructions from UNO Aviation Institute, a gift basket from Great Harvest Bread Company, a potted tree of choice from Lanoha Nurseries. Numerous $100 gift certificates will also be given away.
