Diet Pepsi Women's Walk Raises $205,000
Apr 17, 2004 | General
A projected $205,000, the second largest total ever, was raised by walkers in Saturday's Diet Pepsi/UNO Women's Walk for women's athletics, UNO Associate Athletic Director Deb Denbeck announced today. The Women's Walk, now in its 19th year, has now raised over $2.3 million for the women's athletic department since its inception.
Over 1,100 women participated in the event which raises money for scholarships for UNO's female student-athletes. It is the primary fundraiser for women's athletic scholarships.
"I would like to thank all of these women for coming out today and supporting UNO women's athletics," said Denbeck. "It was a beautiful day and the turnout was tremendous. Because of the hard work and dedication of these walkers, our female student-athletes receive opportunities they might not otherwise have."
A continental breakfast and a chance to win many valuable prizes were just a few of the incentives for participants.
The Diet Pepsi Women's Walk receives its name from the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company, which for the past 16 years, has sponsored this fundraiser with a $25,000 annual donation. Pepsi's donation pays for the cost of the walk, therefore, all the money raised by the walkers directly benefits the female student-athletes.
Chairman of the event was Maggie Lehning.
