Menghini Named NCC Athlete of the Week

Sarah Menghini of Nebraska-Omaha and Cori Vining & David Hegland from South Dakota State have been named North Central Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week.
Menghini, a a native of Omaha, Neb., won the 100-meter dash (:11.86) and the 200-meter dash (:24.42) races at the Northwest Missouri State Invitational. She was also on the winning 4x100 relay team and was named Female Athlete of the Meet. All three times were provisional qualifying performances for the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships. The 100 time is the fourth fastest in NCAA Division II competition this season while the 200 time is the fifth fastest.
Vining, a senior from Huron, S.D., won the 100-meter hurdles at the University of Sioux Falls Invitational with a time of :14.26, which is the second-fastest time in NCAA Division II this season.
Hegland, a senior from Jamestown, N.D., broke a 32-year-old SDSU record in winning the 110-meter hurdles with a time of :14.23 at the University of Sioux Falls Invitational. The performance broke the record of Glenn Carlson (:14.24) that was set in 1972.
