Kirby, Denney Honored by Newspaper

Soccer All-American Stephanie Kirby and wrestling coach Mike Denney have been honored by the Omaha World-Herald as the state college female athlete and coach of the year, respectively.
Denney, in his 25th season as the Mavericks' head coach, guided the team to its second NCAA Division II national title in March. The Mavs also won the 1991 NCAA II championship under Denney, as well as the 1970 NAIA title under head coach Don Benning.
Kirby is the fifth UNO athlete to earn the World-Herald honor. The two-time All-American from Elkhorn is the only player in North Central Conference history to be named to the all-league team four straight years.
