Solid First Day for Mavs at Holiday Inn Invite

LINCOLN, NEB.- Debbie Akerly advanced to the semi-finals of the 60 meter hurdles and placed fourth in the long jump to help lead the Mavericks to a successful first day at the Holiday Inn Invitational on Friday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Akerly, along with teammate Anastasia Kyvelidou, qualified for the 60 meter hurdle semi-finals on Saturday with times of 8.78 and 8.67, respectively. Akerly's leap of 18-03 Aľ in the triple jump was UNO's second-longest mark of the day. Foluso Makinde finished one spot ahead of Akerly in the long jump with a leap of 18-06 A˝. Kyvelidou placed sixth in the high jump (5-01 AĽ) and Angela Kampschnieder placed eighth in the 800 meter run (2:24.63).
The Mavericks also had very solid outings in the 1000 meter run and 1-mile run. Molly Miller finished fifth in the 1000 meters (3:06.45), while Des Campbell placed ninth (3:18.81). In the 1-mile run, Sarah Zeisler (fourth; 5:11.82), Tahnee Tuenge (fifth; 5:14.85), Kellie Ryan (seventh; 5:19.63) and Tinissa Leguillow (eighth; 5:24.34) all finished in the top ten.
Stephanie Jaksich placed fourth in the pole vault after clearing a height of 10-02. Talia Walford finished ninth after vaulting 9-08.
The Mavs hit the track at noon on Saturday when they wrap up the Holiday Inn Invitational.
