Mavs Open Spring Season in Florida

UNO will open the spring portion of its schedule with a 36-hole tournament against Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State, Mankato at the par-72, 5,755-yard Port Charlotte Golf Club on Wednesday and Thursday, March 16-17 in Port Charlotte, Fla.
The Lineup
Tanis Hastmann, Ashley Sipe, Mandy Houtz, Amanda Stock, Amber Dodge, Allyson Yung, Carly Froehlich, Sara Wolfe and Lindsay Newton will compete in the opening tournament.
In the Fall
The Mavericks finished second in the North Central Conference and senior Tanis Hastmann won her fourth-straight individual title in the final fall event Oct. 9-11. Prior to that, the Mavs won two tournaments and finished second once. Hastmann and junior Amanda Stock, who was second in the NCC meet, each were named to the all-North Central Conference team.
The Coach
Tim Nelson is in his second season as the Mavericks' head coach. The long-time local teaching professional took over the program in June, 2003 after serving one season as the head coach at the College of St. Mary in Omaha. Nelson has been a member of the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) since 1972. Nelson, a UNO graduate, guided the Mavericks to the 2003 North Central Conference title in the fall, the team's second in a row, and was named the NCC Coach of the Year.
On Deck
The Mavericks will return home March 19 and will compete next in the Augustana Invitational in Sioux Falls, S.D. UNO will then host the Ironwood Collegiate Classic at Ironwood Country Club in Omaha on April 8-9.
