Mavs Host Ironwood Classic Friday & Saturday

UNO will host the fourth annual Ironwood Collegiate Classic Friday and Saturday, April 8-9 at Ironwood Country Club. The 36-hole, six-school tournament will begin with 9:30 a.m. tee times Friday and will continue Saturday with tee times beginning at 12:30 p.m.
The Mavericks will enter two teams in the tournament The other eams entered include Minnesota State, Mankato, North Dakota, Concordia-St. Paul, Truman State and Missouri Western.. UNO has won the past two Ironwood Classic titles and Hastmann will be trying to capture her fourth straight individual championship. The Ironwood Country Club course is a 5,999-yard, par-72 layout, located at 126th and Pacific Streets. The tournament is open to the public free of charge.
The Lineups
UNO will have all 13 players competing in the tournament, with five on each of the Red and Black teams and three playing as individuals. Lineups will be set later in the week.
Last Week
Amanda Stock finished third, Sara Wolfe fourth and Tanis Hastmann fifth to lead the Mavericks into second place in the Augustana Invitational Saturday. Stock shot a four-over-par 76, Wolfe a 77 and Hastmann a 78 on the Prairie Green Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D. On Friday, the Maverick junior varsity finished first in a tournament at Hastings, Neb. Herrera won the individual title with an 80 at Southern Hills Golf Club.
In the Fall
The Mavericks finished second in the North Central Conference and senior Tanis Hastmann won her fourth-straight individual title in the final fall event Oct. 9-11. Prior to that, the Mavs won two tournaments and finished second once. Hastmann and junior Amanda Stock, who was second in the NCC meet, each were named to the all-North Central Conference team.
The Coach
Tim Nelson is in his second season as the Mavericks' head coach. Nelson took over the program in June, 2003, after serving one season as the head coach at the College of St. Mary in Omaha. A UNO graduate, he guided the Mavericks to the 2003 North Central Conference title and was named the NCC Coach of the Year.
On Deck
The Mavericks will compete in the 36-hole Minnesota State, Mankato Invitational in Waseca, Minn., April 16-17. The event will be the final spring tournament before the North Central Regional meet, which will be May 2-3 in Winona, Minn.
