
Mavericks 7th After First Round

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Senior Tanis Hastmann birdied the final hole Wednesday to finish with a four-over-par 77 in the first round of the 72-hole NCAA II women's golf championship. The Mavericks are seventh in the eight-team field after the first day on the par-73, 6,069-yard Championship Course.
The Mavericks trail team leader Rollins, the two-time defending champions, by 20 shots. UNO will tee off beginning at 9:50 a.m. CDT on Thursday.
Hastmann is tied for 12th in the tournament, four shots behind Ferris State's Becky Hoffman, who shot even-par 73. Hastmann was even on the front nine before posting a double bogey on the par-four sixth and went out in 39. She then had bogeys at 12, 15 and 17 before getting a birdie on the par-five 18th.
Freshman Carly Froehlich is tied for 28th after shooting an 80. She went out in 42, but birdied 15 to get back to five-over, then posted bogeys on 16 and 17.
Junior Amanda Stock had an up-and-down round with two double bogeys and seven bogeys, yet still shot an eight-over 81 with birdies at Nos. 8, 9 and 18.
Rollins, with a 302 total, is four shots ahead of Grand Valley State.
