Runners Finish Second at UNO/CU Invitational

OMAHA, Neb.--The University of Nebraska at Omaha women's cross country team opened up its 2005 season with a second place finish at the UNO/Creighton Invitational, held at Chalco Hills Recreational Area on Saturday.
Sophomore Kaylen Harris (Bellevue, Neb.) led all Maverick runners with a fifth place finish in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 19:49. Senior Kellie Ryan (Plattsmouth, Neb.), sophomore Tahnee Tuenge (North Platte, Neb.) and senior Sarah Zeisler (Butte, Neb.) finished seventh, eighth and tenth, respectively, to round out the top 10 finishers. Maverick senior Allison Gorman (Plattsmouth, Neb.) had a 12th place finish, while freshmen Magann Venteicher (Omaha, Neb.) and Kym Bennett (Bellevue, Neb.) finished 16th and 25th.
Nebraska-Lincoln captured both the women's and men's team titles along with the individual champions. NU's Kayte Tranel was the women's individual champion, finishing the race with a time of 18:50.15. Peter van der Westhuizen finished the 8,000-meter race in 28:04.78.
