Mav Golfers to Compete in Lincoln

The Mavericks will have their final fall tournament before the North Central Conference championship when they travel to Lincoln to compete in the 36-hole Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational Sunday and Monday. The first round will be played on the Pioneers Golf Course beginning at 11 a.m. and the meet will conclude Monday on the Highlands Golf Course, with tee times starting at 10 a.m.
Last Week: Mavs 5th in Rain-Shortened Minnesota Meet
The Mavericks finished fifth in the Southwest Minnesota State Invitational last weekend when rain canceled the final day of play in the 11-team meet at Marshall Golf Club. Amanda Stock shot a 79 the first day and was two shots out of the lead. The Mavericks finished with a 332 total, eight strokes behind host Southwest Minnesota State at 324. Truman State was at 326, Winona State at 329 and South Dakota at 330. The other Maverick scores included Mandy Houtz, tied for 11th at 81; Lindsay Newton, 85; Allyson Yung 87, and Kate O'Dea, 90. Carly Froehlich, competing as an individual, shot an 83.

The Mavs will send Amanda Stock, Mandy Houtz, Lindsay Newton, Kate O'Dea and Lynn Mulligan to the meet. In addition Sara Wolfe, Allyson Yung, Carly Froehlich and Amber Dodge will play as individuals.
Maverick Black Team Wins at Midland
The Maverick Black team earned a one-shot victory the Midland Lutheran College Invitational Sept., 28, led by Kate O'Dea and Carly Froehlich, who each shot 88s. Sara Wolfe and Lynn Mulligan added 90s and Amber Dodge shot 99.
The Coach
Tim Nelson is in his third season as the Mavericks' head coach. Nelson took over the program in June, 2003, after serving one season as the head coach at the College of St. Mary in Omaha. A UNO graduate, he guided the Mavericks to the 2003 North Central Conference title and was named the NCC Coach of the Year.

The Mavericks will host the men's and women's North Central Conference Tournament Oct. 8-10 for a second straight year and for the third time in four years. The first two rounds will be played at Elkhorn's Indian Creek Golf Course, with the final round at Shadow Ridge Country Club.
