Mavs Fare Well During 1st Day of Holiday Inn Invit

LINCOLN, Neb.--Jennifer Victor finished second in the 800 meter run to help lead the Maverick track team during the first day of the Holiday Inn Invitational on Friday.
Victor finished the race with a time of 2:20.28. Foluso Makinde placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-00.50. Other top five finishers were Sarah Zeisler (5:16.37) and Kellie Mertes (5:16.55), who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the mile.
Debbie Akerly (9.57) and Lisa Lane (9.72) both advanced to the semifinals of the 60 meter hurdle race on Saturday.
Molly Belling (7.65), Laverne Monger (7.79) and Makinde (7.96) also advanced to Saturday's semifinals of the 60 meter dash.
UNO had a strong showing in two distance races. Kaylen Harris placed seventh in the 5000 meter run (18:52.69) while Allison Gorman finished 11th. Kellie Ryan finished eighth in the 3000 meter run with a pace of 10:38.79.
The meet concludes on Saturday with events running all day.
