Bober, Geil, Geary to Join UNO Hall of Fame

Three former Maverick athletes who made their mark nationally will be inducted into the UNO Athletic Hall of Fame on November 1 at the DoubleTree Downtown. Two-time football All-American Chris Bober, career baseball games-played leader Greg Geary and track All-American Sheila Brown Geil will be the featured honorees at the banquet.
The 31st annual event is open to the public at $50 per person or $500 for a table of 10. Reservations may be made by phoning the UNO Athletic Office at 554-2506. The social hour begins at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 and the program at 8.
Greg Geary
A four-year baseball starter, he set numerous season and career records during his 1994-97 career. He led the nation in bases on balls as a freshman in 1994 with 51 and currently ranks first in career games, at-bats, runs and walks. He was a three-time all-North Central Conference player as an outfielder and infielder. Geary joins his wife, Toni Novak Geary, in the Hall of Fame. Toni, an All-American softball player was inducted in 2004.
Sheila Brown Geil
She holds or shares three track records that were set during her 1984-87 career, including the 400 meter hurdles outdoors (61.67); the 500 meters indoors (1:17.35) and the 4x400 meter relay indoors (3:54.75). She was an all-American in cross country in 1987 and was a member of the 4x400 all-American relay team in 1985 after an NCC championship in that event the same year. She won four NCC titles in track and also was a three-time academic all-NCC selection.
Chris Bober
He earned first-team All-American honors as an offensive lineman in 1998 and 1999 to become the school's first two-time first-team All-American in football since Bill Englehardt in 1955-56. An outstanding blocker and pass-protector, he redshirted in 1995, played as a part-time starter in 1996 and then started full-time for three seasons. UNO won two NCC titles and made three NCAA II playoff appearances during his career. He was all-NCC twice, each time being named the most valuable offensive lineman. Drafted by the New York Giants, he became a starter in the NFL and later signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2004.
