Mavericks Win Nebraska Wesleyan Title

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Mavericks used their best round of the year to capture their first tournament title of the fall, edging Truman State by three shots in the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational Monday. UNO juniors Lynn Mulligan and Lindsay Newton tied for second in the individual race at 155 in the 36-hole meet at Pioneers Golf Course.
Newton and Erin Ommen each shot three-over-par 75s Monday, while Mulligan added a 78 and Amy Powell a 79 for a 307 round and a 641 total. Truman State, led by medalist Julie Williams' 74, shot 317 Monday for a 644 total. Williams finished five shots out front after an opening 76, with a 150 total.
The Mavericks counted four rounds in the 70s Monday in perfect conditions, and had another low round by Kate O'Dea, who shot a 79 while competing as an individual. The 307 total was the lowest of the season by the Mavericks by five shots.
UNO finished seventh, third and fourth in three previous fall tournaments.
The Mavericks conclude the fall season in the 54-hole North Central Conference tournament Oct. 7-9 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
