Mavericks Grab 3rd NCC Golf Title

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Mavericks claimed their third North Central Conference golf championship Monday at Minnehaha Country Club with a five-shot cushion over Augustana. UNO junior Lindsay Newton finished second, losing a one-hole playoff for the individual title.
Newton shot a final-round 84 for a 235 total in the 54-hole event, tying with Augustana's Courtney Belanger, who shot an 81 Monday. Belanger parred the first playoff hole to Newton's bogey for the title. Maverick junior Lynn Mulligan, with a final-round 85, was third at 238.
UNO, which shot a 336 Monday on the 5,896-yard, par-72 course, had a tournament total of 966 to Augustana's 971. The Mavericks entered the final round with a 10-shot lead over the Vikings.
The Mavericks also won championships in 2002 and 2003. This is the second title under current head coach Tim Nelson.
