Tom Frette Named Interim Athletic Director

Tom Frette, one of the longest-serving athletic department staff members and the head athletic trainer, has been named the interim director of athletics. UNO interim chancellor John Christensen made the announcement Monday morning following the resignation of David Herbster as UNO athletic director.
Frette joined the Maverick athletic staff in 1987. The Story City, Iowa, native became the head athletic trainer in 1997 after serving as the associate head trainer.
Frette received his undergraduate degree from Northern Iowa in 1986 and completed his master's degree in 1989 in exercise science from UNO.
Herbster, who came to UNO as athletic director in January, 2005, will perform university promotion, development and outreach duties through June 2007, and will continue to report to Christensen.
