Tuenge, Yates Win Titles in Opening Meet

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Tahnee Tuenge and Ashley Yates each captured titles as the Mavericks opened indoor track competition Thursday night at the Derek Miles Open in the DakotaDome at the University of South Dakota.
Yates won the long jump title with a mark of 18 feet, 2 1/2 inches. She also finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 36-7 1/2.
Tuenge glided to a 13-second win in the mile run with a time of 5:17.56.
Other Mavs who placed included Mary Margaret Nelson, third in the 800 meters at 2:22.80; Kaeli Bixler, third in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw; Ashley Freeman, fifth in the high jump, and Allsion Gottsch, ninth in the shot put and 10th in the weight throw.
The Mavericks are idle until competing in the Holiday Inn Classic Jan. 12-13 in Lincoln.
