Mavs in 1st in Opening Meet

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Carly Froehlich shot a 79, one shot off the lead, to help put the Mavericks into first place after the opening round of the Spring Tournament at Port Charlotte Golf Club Wednesday.
The second round of the 36-hole tournament will begin with tee times Thursday at 11 a.m. CST.
The Mavericks, at 327, hold a five-shot lead over Minnesota State, Mankato in the three-team tournament. Missouri Western is third at 390.
Froehlich, a sophomore from Norfolk, Neb., trails Minnesota State's Michelle Reiners and Katie Mettling by one shot.
The other UNO scores included Kate O'Dea 81; Allyson Yung 83; Lindsay Newton 84, and Mandy Houtz 88.
Four other Mavericks competed as individuals: Amanda Stock and Sara Wolfe each carded 83, Lynn Mulligan a 90 and Amber Dodge 93. Stock, a senior who is a three-time all-North Central Conference selection, is recovering from shoulder surgery in the fall.
