SW Minnesota Meet Next for Mavericks

The Mavericks head to Marshall, Minn., this weekend to compete in the 36-hole Southwest Minnesota State Invitational at the Marshall Country Club. Tee times are at noon on Friday, April 14 and 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 15. The rest of the field includes Southwest Minnesota State, Upper Iowa, Winona State, Bemidji State, Concordia-St. Paul, St. Cloud State, Augustana, South Dakota and Minnesota State, Mankato.
Last Event
UNO's string of three straight titles in the Ironwood Collegiate Classic was broken as the Mavericks finished second to Minnesota State last weekend. Lynn Mulligan and Lindsay Newton led UNO, tying for fifth place with 36-hole scores of 166.
Fall Honors
Amanda Stock earned her third all-North Central Conference first-team berth. In addition, Lindsay Newton and Carly Froehlich were selected to the all-NCC second team. Six Mavericks earned spots in the NCC Academic Honor Roll: Amber Dodge, Carly Froehlich, Mandy Houtz, Lynn Mulligan, Lindsay Newton and Allyson Yung. To qualify, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average after at least two full semesters, as well as being an active member of the team.
The Maverick Season
UNO has now won four tournaments and a dual meet, finished second twice and, third and fifth once each during the season. Senior Amanda Stock won twice and finished second twice in five meets and led the team with a 78.2 stroke average over 12 rounds in the fall. Stock is one of three seniors on the team, including Amber Dodge and Mandy Houtz.
The Coach
Tim Nelson is in his third season as the Mavericks' head coach. Nelson took over the program in June, 2003, after serving one season as the head coach at the College of St. Mary in Omaha. A UNO graduate, he guided the Mavericks to the 2003 North Central Conference title and was named the NCC Coach of the Year.
On Deck
UNO travels back to the state of Minnesota to compete in the Minnesota State, Mankato Invitational. The 36-hole event will be held at the Lakeside Golf Club in Waseca, Minn., April 22-23. That will be the final regular season meet for the Mavericks before the May 1-2 NCAA II North Regional in Vermillion, S.D.
