YANKTON, S.D. - Nebraska-Omaha's Debbie Akerly sits in fifth place in the women's heptathlon and Julie Gass is 12th after the first day of the North Central Conference Multi-event competition, which is being hosted by USD in Yankton, S.D.
Akerly has 2,585 points in the seven-event heptathlon. Mara McGill of South Dakota leads the event with 2,765 points. Gass is in 12th place with 1,966 points. The competition will conclude on Tuesday.
