Mertes Wins, Mavericks Finish 3rd

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Sophomore Kelli Mertes captured the College Division title in the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational, leading the Mavericks to a third-place finish in the 22-team meet at Pioneers Park Saturday.
Mertes finished 10th overall in the meet, which also included five University Division teams. Central Missouri State won the College Division team title, with Nebraska Wesleyan second.
Mertes, a Brownville, Neb., native who is a graduate of Auburn High School, recorded a time of 23:20.65 over the 6,000-meter course. Kaylen Harris finshed seventh, Mary Margaret Nelson 30th, Tahnee Tuenge 50th and Rachel Truckenbrod 72nd in the event.
UNO is next in action Sept. 30 in the NCAA Pre-Regional meet in Wayne, Neb.
