
Tuenge Sets School Mark in Holiday Inn Meet

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Tahnee Tunege set a school record in the 1,000-meters and Molly Belling and LaVerne Monger finished 2-3 in the 60-meter dash prelims Friday to lead the Mavericks in the first day of the Holiday Inn Classic at the Devaney Sports Center. The meet concludes Saturday.
Tuengee ran the race in 2:56.88 to finish fourth, topping the previous record of 2:56.93 set by Barb Keefover in 1993. Belling ran the event in 7.66 seconds and Monger in 7.73. Tuengee was ahead of teammate Mary Margarte Nelson who finished fourth at 3:01.58 and Kelli Mertes sixth, in 3:06.94.
Other Friday performances by the Mavericks included a sixth place finish by Ashley Yates in the long jump and a 13th-place finish in the 60-meter hurdle prelims by Summer Bougher in 9.49 seconds.
