Mavericks Grab 4 Wins

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Mavericks won four events, including two by Molly Belling to highlight Saturday's performance in the Holiday Inn Classic at the Devaney Sports Center.
Belling, a sophomore from Omaha, had a personal best of 7.60 seconds to win the 60 meter dash, while teammate LaVerne Monger was third with a time of 7.73. Belling also won the 200-meter dash title with a time of 24.71. Both of her wins are provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA II national meet.
Senior Angela Kampschnieder also had a personal best of 1:26.16 to win the 600-yard run. The other win was by Pinar Saka in the 400-meter dash. The sophomore from Istanbul, Turkey, ran a provisional qualifying time of 55.69 seconds. Freshman Jessica Purdy, Valentine, Neb., was third with a time of 59.02.
Monger was also second in the 200 meters behind Belling with a time of 24.76 seconds. Both of her performances were also provisional qualifying marks.
Other Maverick highlights included a second-place finish by the distance medley relay team of Kellie Mertes, Kampschnieder, Mary Margaret Nelson and Tahnee Tuenge with a time of 12:22.36. Also, Ashley Yates was seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 34-11 3/4 and Kaeli Bixler was eighth in the shot put with a throw of 40-9.
The Mavericks' next action will be Saturday in the Graphic Edge Open in Vermillion, S.D.
