Tuenge, 3 Teammates Win Titles at USD Meet

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Four Mavericks won events and Tahnee Tunege posted a provisional qualifying time in the 800 meters Saturday to highlight UNO's showing in the Graphic Edge Alumni Open at the DakotaDome.
Tuenge, running the 800 for the first time in competition, recorded a 2:15.63.
In the 400 meters, Karin Clarkson won with a time of 58.98 seconds, with Molly Belling third and Magda Orzylowski fifth.
Angela Kampschnieder won the 500-meter race with a time of 1:18.54, with Jessica Purdy second and Mary Margaret Nelson fourth.
LaVerne Monger grabbed the title in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.69, with teammates Libby DiBiase and Sommer Bougher sixth and seventh.
Other Mavericks who placed included:
-LaCheryl Prince, third in the long jump with a mark of 17-2.
-Ashley Freeman, third in the high jump at 5-1; Kelly Hollmann was 10th.
-Kaeli Bixler was 13th in the weight throw with a mark of 41-8.
-Kellie Mertes was second in the mile with a time of 5:25.84.
-Ashley Yates, third in the triple jump, 36 1.25.
-Bixler, 11th in the shot put with a mark of 38-0.
-4x400 relay team 3rd.
The Mavericks are in action again next weekend in the adidas Classic in Lincoln.
