Mavs' Pinar Saka Wins 400 in adidas Classic

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Pinar Saka won the 400 meter dash and Molly Belling finished third in the 200-meter dash Saturday to highlight UNO's performances in the adidas Classic at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Saka, a sophomore from Istanbul, Turkey, ran the race in 54.95, the second-fastest in school indoor history.
Belling, a sophomore from Omaha, ran her race in 24.59 seconds, also the second-fastest indoor time for a Maverick, trailing a pair of University of Oklahoma athletes. Leslie Cole of the Sooners won the event in 24.18.
The Mavericks' 4x400-meter relay team ran second behind Oklahoma with a time of 3:45.36, that is an automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA II indoor meet in March.
Other Mavericks to place included Tahnee Tuenge, seventh in the mile; Magda Orzylowski, seventh in the 600-yard run; Kellie Mertes, eighth in the 1000-meters; Mary Margaret Nelson, 10th in the 800-meter run, and Kaylen Harris, 10th in the 3000. In the field events, Allison Gottsch was sixth and Brittany Herman seventh in the weight throw and Ashley Yates was eighth in the triple jump.
UNO will run in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln on Friday and Saturday in its next competition.
