Wolfe Wins, Leads Mavs to 3rd Straight Title

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Sara Wolfe shot a solid six-over 78 Monday for her first career win to lead the Mavericks to their third straight tournament championship with a 12-shot cushion over host North Dakota in the Sioux Women's Invitational on the par-72, 5,867-yard King's Walk Golf Course.
Wolfe, who was second after a first-round 75, finished at 153, tying first-round leader Anglea Klindtworth of Manitoba, who shot 73-80. The senior from Norfolk won the tiebreaker based on her second-day score. It's her first career victory and seventh top-five finish. The first-round 75 tied her career best as a Maverick.
The Mavericks, with three of four rounds in the 70s, shot a second-round 314 for a 627 total to North Dakota's 639.
Lynn Mulligan had the Mavericks' best round Monday with a 76 to go with an opening 78 for a 154 total to tie for third. Lindsay Newton shot an 81 for a 161 total, good for 12th place, and Erin Ommen shot 79 for 162 and 13th. Abbey Weddle, with a 165, and Dani Suponchick, competing as an individual, tied for 19th. Kate O'Dea, also playing as an individual, was tied for 41st after an 86 for a 173 total.
UNO's next assignment will be to try and keep the string going and defend its title in the North Central Conference tournament this weekend. The 54-hole event will be played in Sioux Falls, S.D., Oct. 6-8.
