Mavericks Hold Strong Lead After 1st Day

Lindsey Kline won two events and the Maverick relay teams won twice to lead UNO into a commanding lead after the first day of the Mutual of Omaha Swimming and Diving meet at the HPER Pool Friday night. The meet concludes with prelims at 10 a.m. Saturday and finals at 6 p.m.
UNO has 849 points to second-place Grinnell's 457 in the six-team women's section of the meet. UNO is bidding for its third-straight team title. Colorado School of Mines leads the four-team men's portion of the event.
Kline captured the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:41.97 and the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.23. Other Mavericks to win individual events included Kristy Gmeiner, who swam the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25:21, and Tessa Edwards who was clocked in 2:13.37 in the 200-yard backstroke.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Gmeiner, Cait Hopkins, Lisa Elworth and Jessica Hessel had a time of 1:39.25. Gmeiner, Hopkins, Hessel and Katey Howarter hada time of 4:09.42 to win the 400-yard medley relay.
