Monger, Belling, Saka Advance at Husker Invite

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Senior LaVerne Monger and sophomores Molly Belling and Pinar Saka all posted top marks in the preliminaries at the presitgious Frank Sevigne Husker Invite Friday night, advancing to the finals in each of their respective events. The meet is dominated by some of the top NCAA Division I teams in the nation.
Monger and Belling advanced to the finals in both the 60 and 200-meter dashes. Saka will appear in the finals in the 400.
Belling had perhaps the shortest-lived school record in UNO history as she set the Maverick record in the 200-meter prelims with a time of 24.45. Just minutes later, Monger broke that record with a time of 24.41.
Belling advanced in the 60 meters in 7.63 while Monger was just behind at 7.65.
Sakar had the seventh-fastest qualifying time in the 400 at 56.10.
The meet will continue on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Nebraska's Bob Devaney Sports Center.
