Mavs Claim NCC Track Title

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Molly Belling claimed two of UNO's six event titles, including a meet-record in the 60-meter dash, to lead the Mavericks to their first North Central Conference women's indoor track and field championship in 26 years Saturday at the DakotaDome.
UNO finished with 162.5 points, followed by Minnesota State, Mankato at 134, North Dakota, 124.5, South Dakota, 121.5, Augustana 75, Minnesota Duluth, 70.5 and St. Cloud State at 51.
Belling, a sophomore from Omaha, won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.56 seconds, bettering the old mark of 7.66 set by UNO's Carly Lambert in the 2002 meet. She also won the 200-meter race with a time of 24.38 seconds, which was a DakotaDome record. Monger was second in the 200 and third in the 60.
Meanwhile, LaCheryl Prince won the triple jump with a mark of 38 feet, one-quarter inch. Angela Kampschnieder the 500-meter run in a DakotaDome record 1:15.32, with teammate Jessica Purdy third and Magda Orzylowski fifth. Karin Clarkson edge teammate Pinar Saka to win the 400 with a time of 57.09 seconds to Saka's 57.11. The other win came from the 4x400 relay team in the meet's final event. Clarkson, Kampschnieder, Saka and Monger ran the event in 3:49.07/
That victory ended the Mavericks' bridesmaid role in four of the past six indoor meets. UNO was second each of the past two years. UNO's only other indoor meet title was in 1981.
Other top performances Saturday, included a second-place finish by Tahnee Tuenge in the mile run and the 1000-meter run. In the 200, besides Belling and Monger, Saka finished fourth and Clarkson fifth. Kaeli Bixler was fourth in the shot put and Ashley Yates seventh in the triple jump, while Mary Margaret Nelson was sixth in the 800-meter run and Kellie Mertes eighth in the 1000.
