Monger Claims NCC Track Honor

Senior LaVerne Monger has been named the North Central Conference women's track athlete of the week, the league office announced Tuesday. Monger, from Omaha, set a UNO record in the 200-meter dash last week with a time of 24.41 seconds in the prelims in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
Monger's mark broke the record of 24.45 set by teammate Molly Belling just minutes before in another heat. Monger's time was the second-fastest of the indoor season in NCAA Division II.
Monger went on to finish fifth in the finals of the 200 with a time of 24.47. She also finished fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.67 seconds.
The Mavericks this week will compete in the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, on Friday and Saturday.
