Mavs Host Ironwood Classic Sunday, Monday

The Mavericks make their only home appearance of the year this weekend when they host the seven-team Ironwood Collegiate Classic. The teams will tee off Sunday at noon at Ironwood Country Club for the first round and will conclude the 36-hole event with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start Monday.
Teams entered include UNO, South Dakota, Augustana, Minnesota State, Mankato, Missouri Western, North Dakota and Truman State. A total of 45 players will compete in the tournament, which is open to the public at no charge.
The Lineup
The Mavericks' lineup will include juniors Lindsay Newton, Lynn Mulligan, Kate O'Dea, Sara Wolfe and freshmen Amy Powell, Rachel Mooberry and Erin Ommen.
Last Tournament
UNO won the Missouri Western Invitational and the Augustana Spring Tournament in their previous outings this spring. UNO shot a 36-hole total of 664 and Sara Wolfe finished two shots back at 164 at Missouri Western. At Augustana, Lindsay Newton and Kate O'Dea each shot 77 at Augustana, leading UNO to a 308 total. Rain washed out the second round.
The Coach
Tim Nelson is in his fourth season as the Mavericks' head coach. Nelson took over the program in June, 2003, after serving one season as the head coach at the College of St. Mary in Omaha. A UNO graduate, he has guided the Mavericks to the 2003 and 2006 North Central Conference titles and was named the NCC Coach of the Year both years. The Mavericks have advanced to the national finals in 2005 and 2006 under Nelson.
On Deck
UNO will travel to Waseca, Minn., to compete in the Minnesota State, Mankato Invitational on April 21-22. That will be the final regular season meet for UNO. The NCAA II North Regional will be April 30-May 2 in Waterloo, Iowa.
