Track Team Heads to Concordia for Outdoor Debut

The Maverick track team will move outdoors (finally) to compete in the Concordia University Invitational in Seward, Neb. The Mavericks will take 23 competitors to the meet, which begins with 10:30 a.m. field events. Running events begin at noon.
UNO was to have begun its outdoor season last week, but canceled its appearance in the Bearcat Open in Maryville, Mo., because of the cold weather conditions.
UNO Indoor Wrap
The Mavericks won their first North Central Conference indoor championship in 26 years Feb. 24, in Vermillion, S.D., capturing seven event titles. UNO then went on to finish 10th in the NCAA II Indoor National meet March 9-10 in Boston.
The Coach
Steve Smith took over as the interim head coach for the cross country and track program at UNO Aug. 28 after 19-year coach Tim Hendricks retired. Smith is a 1981 graduate of Pittsburg State and began his coaching career at that school. He has also served as a collegiate assistant at Wichita State and Nebraska. He joined the UNO program as an assistant under Hendricks in January, 2006. Smith was named the NCC's women's indoor coach of the year.
