Regular Season Finale Next for Mavericks

The Mavericks compete in their final regular season tournament this weekend when they travel to Waseca, Minn., to play in the 36-hole Minnesota State Invitational. The 11-team tournament at the Lakeside Country Club includes Winona State, Missouri Western, Upper Iowa, Truman State, Southwest Minnesota State, South Dakota, North Dakota, Augustana, Minnesota State, Mankato and Concordia-St. Paul. The field will tee off beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday and will have a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Sunday.
The Lineup
The Mavericks' lineup will include juniors Lindsay Newton, Lynn Mulligan, Kate O'Dea, Sara Wolfe and freshmen Amy Powell. Rachel Mooberry and Erin Ommen will compete as individuals.
Last Tournament
UNO finished second in the Ironwood Collegiate Classic on April 15-16 at the Ironwood Country Club. Junior Lynn Mulligan shot 78-77--155 to win the individual title. Augustana claimed the team title by a nine-shot margin over the Mavericks. The 155 was Mulligan's best career 36-hole effort.
The Coach
Tim Nelson is in his fourth season as the Mavericks' head coach. Nelson took over the program in June, 2003, after serving one season as the head coach at the College of St. Mary in Omaha. A UNO graduate, he has guided the Mavericks to the 2003 and 2006 North Central Conference titles and was named the NCC Coach of the Year both years. The Mavericks have advanced to the national finals in 2005 and 2006 under Nelson.
On Deck
UNO will compete in the six-team NCAA II North Regional tournament in Waterloo, Iowa, April 30-May 2. The top two teams will advance to the NCAA II national meet in Pensacola, Fla., May 9-12.
