Mavs in 6th After 1st Day of NCC Championships

DULUTH, Minn. -- The University of Nebraska at Omaha women's track team is in sixth place after the first day of competition at the 2007 North Central Conference Outdoor Championships.
Senior Ashley Freeman finished third in the high jump with a mark of 5-05.75.
Junior Kaylen Harris placed fourth in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 38:21.08.
Freshman Heather Minssen placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 40-09.00.
LaCheryl Prince (17-04.00) and Ashley Yates (17-02.25) finished sixth and seventh respectively in the long jump.
UNO will look to gain some ground tomorrow as several Mavericks qualified for the finals in Saturday's running events.
In the prelims of the 100-meter dash, Molly Belling (11.75) finished first and LaVerne Monger (11.96) was third.
The Mavericks qualified four runners in the 200 as Belling was first (23.97), Monger second (24.76), Karin Clarkson fourth (25.69), and Pinar Saka fifth (25.04).
Clarkson (56.69), Saka (57.10), and Jessica Purdy (58.32) all advanced in the 400 by finishing first, second, and fifth respectively in the prelims.
Tahnee Tuenge ran the 800 in 2:21.82 while teammate Lisa Tesarek finished in 2:22.18 as both advanced to Saturday's finals by finishing sixth and eighth.
Angela Kampschneider and Magda Orzylowski qualified for the finals of the 100-meter hurdles. Kampschnieder finished second in the prelims in 1:04.32 while Orzylowski was sixth at 1:05.90.
The meet will conclude on Saturday.
