First Tournament this Weekend for Mavs

The Mavericks will field a young lineup this weekend when they compete in the Minnesota State Maverick Roundup in St. James, Minn. Two freshmen and two sophomores will tee off in the 36-hole tournament at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and for three of them, it will be their first UNO competition.
The tournament, played on the St. James Country Club, will conclude with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.
Sophomore Errin Ommen, who finished in a tie for seventh in last year's North Central Conference meet, is the lone veteran in this week's lineup for fifth-year coach Tim Nelson.
The other sophomore is Abbey Weddle, a transfer from Missouri Western. The freshmen are Dani Suponchick, Papillion-LaVista South, who was seventh in the 2006 Class A state tournament, and Terrin Wells, Sidney, Neb., who was the Class B runnerup.
The Mavericks return four seniors from last year's NCC championship squad, including Lindsay Newton, Lynn Mulligan, Kate O'Dea and Sara Wolfe. Newton tied for first and lost in a playoff in last year's NCC meet and Mulligan finished third.
The Mavericks are ranked No. 20 in the preseason Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association poll.
