ST. JAMES, Minn. -- Dani Suponchick's seven-over 79 led the Mavericks into second place after the first day of the Minnesota State Maverick Roundup at the St. James Country Club. UNO trails first-round leader Upper Iowa by 12 shots before Sunday's closing round.
Errin Ommen added an 82, Terrin Wells an 87 and Abbey Weldon an 89 on the 5,881-yard, par-72 St. James course.
Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt leads the meet with a 77, a shot ahead of teammate Jill Preeschl.
UNO leads third-place North Dakota by five shots in the six-team invitational tournament.
