Golfers Snare Tourney Title

LAKE ELMO, Minn. -- Lynn Mulligan shot a closing 77 to finish second and teammate Erin Ommen finished third Monday to lead the Mavericks to the team title in the Bandana Square Invitational at the Tartan Park Golf Club.
The Mavericks' 321 Monday, after Sunday's 311, for a 36-hole total of 632, tied with Upper Iowa, but UNO won a tiebreaker playoff, using the score of the No. 5 golfer, Abbey Weddle, who shot an 80 Monday.
Upper Iowa shot a 313 Monday after an opening 319. North Dakota finished third with a 334-322--656. Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt was the individual champion with a 74-75--149, six shots ahead of Mulligan.
Ommen shot an opening round 76 to lead the Mavericks Sunday. Several of the 12 teams, however, couldn't finish the first round on the par-72, 5,928-yard course because of darkness.
The victory was the first tournament title of the fall season for the Mavericks in three outings. Next up will be the Southwest Minnesota State Invitational in Marshall, Minn., on Saturday and Sunday.
