Mavs Finish 1-2-3, Take 2nd Straight Title

MARSHALL, Minn. -- Lindsay Newton, Erin Ommen and Lynn Mulligan finished 1-2-3 to lead UNO to the Mustang Invitational championship Sunday. The Mavericks' closing-round 313 gave them a 24-shot cushion over runner-up Minnesota State.
Newton followed her first-round 77 with a six-over-par 78 Sunday for a 155 to claim the individual title, one shot ahead of Ommen, who fired her second-straight 78. Mulligan was third after a 78 Sunday for a 158 total.
Last week, UNO captured the Bandana Square Invitational in Lake Elmo, Minn., winning a tie-breaker. This week, the Mavericks led wire-to-wire on the 5,936-yard, par-72 Marshall Country Club. Abbey Weddle added a 79 Sunday and Sara Wolfe an 80.
Two Mavericks competed as individuals. Dani Suponchick shot an 88 for a 175 to tie for 42nd and Kate O'Dea had a 90 for a 176, good for 48th.
UNO returns to action in the 36-hole University of North Dakota Invitational at Grand Forks, N.D., Sept. 29-30.
