Mavs Dominant After Day 1 of Mutual of Omaha Invit

OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO swimming and diving team held down first place after the first day of events at the Mutual of Omaha Invite. The Mavs earned 915 points on day one, easily outdistancing the second-place Colorado club team.
The Mavs won the 200-yard freestyle relay to open the meet in a time of 1:37.54.
UNO took the top five spots in the 400-yard individual medley. Laura Kemp won the race in a time of 4:40.44. Jessica LaFave was second in 4:42.87 while Lindsey Kline was third at 4:44.32.
The Mavs' Carrie Murphy took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.96. Colorado's Emily Sampl was second and UNO's Katie Hubbell finished in third.
UNO demonstrated its prowess in the shortest event of the day, the 50-yard freestyle. Kristy Gmeiner won in a time of 24.77, just .01 ahead of teammate Katey Howarter. Lucy Zamecnik touched third for the Mavs in a time of 24.88.
Amy Bechdolt continued UNO's trend of first-place finishes with the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke. She finished in a time of 2:11.07. Teammates Cait Hopkins and Tessa Edwards finished third and fourth respectively.
The Mavs went 1-2-3 in the 100-yard butterfly. LaFave took first in 59.7. Colleen Klaiber was second at 1:03.2 and Kemp was third in 1:04.03.
UNO finished the night with a big win in the 400-yard medley relay. The Mavs were nearly 16 seconds faster than the Colorado club team, finishing in a time of 4:03.95.
The meet concludes on Saturday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. at HPER pool.
