LINCOLN, Neb. -- Pinar Saka broke her own school record in posting the fastest qualifying time in the 400-meter dash prelims Friday with a time of 53.61 in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. Teammate Anja Puc had the fifth-best time in the same event.
The 400-meter final is slated for a 4:52 start on Saturday at the Devaney Indoor Track Center.
Puc's time of 55.58, an automatic qualifying mark for Division II, was a personal best in her brief Maverick career. The freshman, a native of Medvode, Slovenia, enrolled at UNO the second semester and is running in just her third meet.
Saka, a junior from Istanbul, Turkey, had already posted the fastest Division II time in the 400 with a 53.94 in the Holiday Inn Invitational in Lincoln. She elected not to run in Friday's 200-meter dash prelims.
