Mavs 2nd After 1st Day of NCC Meet

The Mavericks finished second in all four swimming finals in Thursday's first day of competition in the North Central Conference swimming and diving championships, and trail first-place North Dakota, 273-248.
The second day of the four-day meet will resume Friday with prelims at 10 a.m. at the HPER Pool. Friday's finals will begin at 6 p.m.
Three Mavs were second Thursday night: Jessica Hessel in the 50-yard freestyle; Lindsey Kline in the 1,000-yard freestyle and Megan Guthmiller in the 200-yard individual medley. In addition the 200-yard medley relay team of Kristy Gmeiner, Carrie Murphy, Hessel and Cait Hopkins was also second.
Other high finishes by the Mavericks: Ashley Barna was second behind Kline in the 1000; Laura Kemp was third in the 200 IM, with Jessica LaFave fifth; Kristy Gmeiner was fifth in the 50-yard freestyle.

4. St. Cloud State - 185
5. Minnesota State, Mankato - 120
6. Minnesota State-Moorhead - 82
