Brown Claims Long Jump Title in NCC Meet

MANKATO, Minn. -- Freshman Shana Brown won the long jump title and Kaylen Harris was third in the 5,000-meters Friday to highlight the University of Nebraska at Omaha's performance in the first day of the North Central Conference indoor track and field championship.
UNO, the defending champion in the meet, stands sixth. Augustana leads the meet. The second day's competition will begin with field events at 10 a.m. and running events at noon.
UNO also advanced all of its runners through the prelims into Saturday's finals in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter run, 500-meter run and the 800-meter run.
Brown posted a mark of 18-7 to win the long jump. Harris ran the 5,000 in a time of 18:14.90.
In other Friday finals, Katie Harvey was eighth in the weight throw with a mark of 47-7 1/4 and Ashley Yates was eighth in the long jump with a mark of 16-11 1/4.
In the running events, Pinar Saka led the qualifying in the 400-meter run with a time of 56.97 seconds, with Anja Puc second and Kayla Koepke third. Saka also was second in the 200 with a time of 25.07. Molly Belling was fourth, Puc sixth and Koepke eighth.
Belling was second in the 60-meter dash and Brown seventh, and in the 800-meter run prelims, Lisa Tesarek was fifth. Jolene Smith finished seventh in the 500-meter race.
