SPENCER, Iowa -- Sara Wolfe and Abbey Weddle each carded 83s Saturday, leading the University of Nebraska at Omaha into second place after the first round of the 36-hole Okoboji Invitational. The final round will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Emerald Hills Golf Club in Arnolds Park.
Upper Iowa holds the first-round lead with a 328, led by individual leader Rachelle Schmidt's 77. UNO is at 338, 10 shots back, and five shots clear of Truman State and Minnesota State, Mankato.
Lindsey Newton shot an 85 and Lynn Mulligan an 87 for UNO, while Erin Ommen shot an 88 over the Spencer Golf and Country Club Course as golfers battled 25-miles per hour winds and temperatures in the mid-40s.
Mavericks Kate O'Dea, with an 89, and Dani Suponchick, with a 90, competed as individuals.
Heavy rains Thursday rendered the Emerald Hills course unplayable for the first round, so the first round was moved to Spencer.
