Mavericks Head to 4th National Finals Meet

The University of Nebraska at Omaha will try to carry its momentum from winning the North Regional tournament into this week's NCAA Division II national meet. The 72-hole, eight-team tournament begins Tuesday at Memorial Park in Houston, Texas.
The Mavericks are coming off a record-setting performance in the North Regional last week in North Dakota. Senior Sara Wolfe set the single-round record with an opening 71 and went on to win the individual title with a 222 for the 54-hole meet. Meanwhile, the Mavs put together two rounds of 303 and finished at 913 for a school record.
The other teams entered in the national field are Augustana, Ferris State, Western Washington, Tarleton State, Grand Valley State, Rollins and Nova Southeastern.
The Maverick team of Wolfe, Lynn Mulligan, Lindsay Newton, Erin Ommen and Abbey Weddle will tee off at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday and at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday. Thursday and Friday tee times will be determined by scores.
This is UNO's fourth trip to the national finals and the first since 2006. UNO finished eighth in 2002 and seventh in 2005 and 2006. The regional title was the third for UNO in the past four years under coach Tim Nelson.
