Wolfe, Mavericks Win, Head to Finals

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Sarah Wolfe shot a final round 76 Wednesday as the University of Nebraska at Omaha sealed its wire-to-wire win in the North Regional and secured its fourth berth in the NCAA Division II finals next week.
UNO finished 27 shots ahead of runner-up Augustana, which came from 16 shots back to claim the other berth in the eight-team finals that will be played May 13-18 in Houston, Texas. Two teams from each of four regions qualify for the 72-hole event.
Wolfe's four-over round at the par-72, 5,867-yard King's Walk Golf Club, gave her a 222 and a two-shot cushion for the individual title over Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt and Truman State's Kaytie Spangler. UNO's Abbey Weddle shot a 76 as well to tie for fifth.
The other UNO scores Wednesday inlcuded a 77 by Lindsay Newton for a 232, good for ninth, a 78 by Erin Ommen for 233 to tie for 10th and a third-straight 79 by Lynn Mulligan to tie for 14th at 237.
UNO, with a 307 Wednesday, finished at 913 to Augustana's 940. The Vikings registered a 308 and went from sixth to second to edge Minnesota State, Mankato and Upper Iowa by one shot.
The Mavericks, for the third straight day, had five rounds in the 70s to set a school 54-hole record. Wolfe was one shot away from a school three-round record. The previous team low was a 919 in the 2003 North Central Conference tournament. That meet also produced the record individual record of 221 by Tanis Hastmann.
UNO's other trips to the national finals came in 2002, 2005 and 2006.
